2006 National Transportation Week Poster Contest Winners
The winner of the 2006 National Transportation Week Poster Contest was announced by Mr. Joseph Toole, Associate Administrator for Professional and Corporate Development of the Federal Highway Administration during a ceremony in Columbia, South Carolina. The event was attended by Elizabeth Mabry, Executive Director of South Carolina Department of Transportation, teachers, students and their parents from around the state who had participated in the competition. Over 350 people attended the event.
Kristi Etta Kennerly, a 5th grade student at the Orangeburg Preparatory School, Orangeburg, South Carolina, was the 1st place winner and received a $200 savings bond, the Eisenhower medal and a plaque. She also won $500 for her school. Her artwork celebrated the theme - One Nation on the Move. “Your poster is extremely creative and shows how all modes of transportation need to work together to keep America moving,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta wrote in a letter to her.
Since 1962, the Nation has set aside the third week of May to honor those who contribute to our transportation systems and to highlight their achievements. The National Transportation Week Poster Contest is designed to inspire young people to consider the many careers in transportation.
