2003 National Transportation Week Poster Contest Winners
The winner of the 2003 National Transportation Week (NTW) Poster Contest was announced by U.S.
Department of Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta at the Transportation and Travel Conference
and Exposition held in celebration of National Transportation Week. The conference was sponsored
by U.S. DOT and the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA). Secretary Mineta was
joined by the NTW 2003 co-chairs, David L. Winstead, Esq. and Jeffrey N. Shane, DOT Undersecretary
for Policy, in honoring Robert Rodriguez, a 5th grade student who attends PS/IS 187 in New York
City. During the ceremony, Yellow Corporation unveiled a 12’ x 12’ copy of the poster
on the side of one of its truck trailers. Robert was joined in the ceremony by his very proud parents,
Emma Moncayo and Dionicio Rodrigues.
Secretary Mineta was the keynote speaker at the 1st annual DOT-NDTA NTW Transportation and Travel
Conference and Exposition, launching NTW 2003. The conference was held at the new Washington, DC Convention
Center. FAA Administrator Marion C. Blakey, FHWA Administrator Mary E. Peters, DOT Chief of Staff
John Flaherty, Mr. Shane and other industry leaders representing all modes of transportation participated
in the 2-day conference.
